BURKE'S GUN OIL
I love new cleaning products. It seems every time you turn around
someone has invented a better, easier way of taking care of a
gunnie's most onerous chore. It's even better when the inventor
is a member of Canadian Shooting Sports.
Dave Burke had a better idea and in applying his long standing
knowledge of chemistry into a "who cares what it costs, lets
do it" attitude, he has created one of the finest firearms
cleaners and lubricants I have ever used.
Burkes Gun Oil is a relatively lightweight oil designed
to penetrate and molecularly bond into the very pores of metal
and even after being wiped off, it will still leave the metal
protected and lubricated. It lifts dirt off of ordinary gun steel
like no oil available and ordinary rust doesn't stand a chance.
Gun oils must be designed to operate under some significant extremes
of pressure, humidity and temperature. Burke's Gun Oil has
been tested to 200,000 PSI and still provided lubricity. Ordinary
gun oils completely fail by 50,000. It has also been tested to
-85 degrees (F) and did not congeal or lose its lubricating properties
and yet testing on metal heated to 120 degrees showed no loss
of viscosity. Hunters need have no concerns lubing their cold
weather firearms with Burke's.
As is our policy (we will not recommend or sell a product we
have not tested ourselves), we treated a piece of gun steel (actually,
an old Swedish Mauser part) with Burke's and left it out in the
rain and sun for a week. At the end of the week there were a couple
of tiny rust spots on the metal but another application of Burke's
wiped them right off!
Of course, Burke's Gun Oil is not magic. It does not work particularly
well on copper fouling, but then again, nothing does except dedicated
copper solvents like Sweet's or Shooter's Choice Copper Remover.
It does a pretty good job on lead fouling when paired with a good
bristle brush and plastic shotgun wad fouling comes out easily.
Remember though, Burkes is a lubricant, not a gun scrubber per
se, and this is where it really shines. It provides superior protection
to metal and makes semi-autos click and clack with perfection.
Hell, it even worked on an old rusty door hinge.
